how you going?

Instead of how are you, people ask "how you going?" And you have to say how you going back and that is it. This german guy staying at the hostel for too long now is getting on our nerves. When you ask "how you going?" he will have a 5 min. conversation about his day. So we had to sit him down and explain that. We all ordered pizza one night. 3 of us shared and the German guy wanted his own - so he ordered his own. We were sitting waiting across the street and his pizza arrives, he opens it up and is just distgusted to which he remarks, "there is cheese on here I didn't order cheese" - Come on, seriously! So he took it back and waited for about an hour to get a new one. The first night I met him I thought he was gay. I guess the hand gestures, animated voice and the very short and tight shirt threw me off. So the next night - after the pizza incident and after we found out he was straight. He sees me with lipstick on. He runs over and says you have lipstick? Can I have some? So me being curious to whether he will put it on gives it to which he puts it on and then asks if I have mascara. Ok I have mascara but we are in town and do not carry it in my pocket. Me and this girl I met (professional snowboarder from Switzerland) just start laughing at how gay his actions are and he is even is "hitting on" my gay friend. We all hope he is departing soon. Well enough laughs for today!

Don't make me drink that!

Lets talk booze - shall we? When i go into the bottle shop I can only buy Australian wine. This is because it is the cheapest thing there. So I buy the $6-9 bottle go back and drink it. It lasts a long time because it is so strong. Now my friends and people here are able to get there hands on some mixed drinks which I've taste enough to know they're crap. but I'll drink it b/c I have a fondness for cocktails. These mixed drinks are sold in a can - gin and tonic - in a can (no real fruit juice) jim beam and coke - in a can, vodka lemonade - in a can. All crap. So I go to the bar and order a jack and coke, finally someone that can make something! Unfortunately the glass is about $4 and 3 gulps and your left to buy more. A bottle of whisky in the bottle shop will run you about $35. Crap! the beer is expensive too! So I'm left to drink the whites and the reds. Please don't feel sorry - I won't take sympathy : )

one week

So I have been here one week and it has been just amazing. I finally started making friends with some really great people. I go for a run everyother morning and the scenery is just incredible one day I ran up a mountain on the west and the other day on the east side and you can look down into the city and just amazing how high up I was. It is definetly rainforest tropics here. They other day some of us walked down the river and you throw your intertube in and swing of this huge rope into the river and just float down. It was soooooo relaxing.

Work is going excellent. The boss is letting me concept some new ideas and revise some things he wants updated. I can wear whatever I want to work and the environment is very relaxed. The clients are far different from those in Milwaukee. Very eathly and new idea-ish.

I made great friends with the gay guy here. Everything is "excellent" and "fabolous" and everything I wear he say's its "stunning" and he likes being called the queen of Bellingen. Well I suppose it is time to get some work done. Cheers.

I've been thinking about all you - especially when it's 80 degrees and I have to jump in the river : )

attack of the foreigners

greetings,

so yesterday i was watching a tv interview with the australian view of the war in Iraq. After that was done we got into a discussion about it and found out that people here do not like America. It seems it is a bad time to be an American traveler because the rest of the world does not appreciate what Bush has done. They do however, loved Bill Clinton when he was in office and they don't condone me as an American because I do have a strong opinion against the war. So to my democratic friends - go blue 2008!

jet-lagged

greetings all,

I've finally made it too the land down-under. The weather is great, the scenery is beautiful and the people are nice. Everyone wants to know what Wisconsin is like. They seem to know sport teams and tv personalities. They don't know how cold it gets in Wisconsin as they have no concept what 10 inches of snow feels like. Their cold weather requires them to put on a fleece and pants. I've come to the right town because everyone just loves it here and doesn't want to leave. One guy said he's been traveling since he was 15 and hasn't found a place better than this. Well I suppose it is time to get a tan and play with the chicken looking things.

one week, one day

I leave in one week and one day. If anyone has any pointers, lingo, good travel advice or if they want to pack themselves in my suitcase I'd love some travel mates. No dice? Hmmm. The main thing is that I know how to ask for a can of beer, "tinny for me!" Well it could also mean small boat but we'll work that out when we get there. cheers for now.
